Stories and Samples

Obscura

Obsura is a free, complete short story. It’s my first attempt at Japanese-style storytelling, utilizing “Kishotenketsu”, an Eastern 4-act story structure.

Featuring a Studio Ghibli-esque aesthetic, this story is about a young village seer named Kenji who sets out to investigate the disappearance of a mystic sword while contending with evil forces he has yet to understand.

Oh, and there’s a chubby bunny that says, “Pyon.” ~7000 words.

One Last Dream

One Last Dream is a free, complete short story. It is a lush fairytale about a sylph who tries to save a young boy’s life, set in Victorian-era England. ~3500 words.

Branches

Branches is a poem about the storied and shared history of humanity, and how tragic it is that we often snap the branches loose from our own family tree.

The Machine

The Machine is a reverse-portal fantasy adventure about a girl who must find her way out of a mysterious and nightmarish Alice in Wonderland-type world, featuring one heck of a gut-punch ending. This is a planned novella.

Chio Pino: A Reverse-retelling of Pinocchio

Chio Pino is an entirely new concept I’ve never seen done before: A classic fairytale told in reverse. Instead of being a story about a puppet who becomes a boy, it’s about a girl who becomes a puppet; A cautionary, dark fairytale suitable for the dire age we now live in, dedicated to the many children who have been swallowed up by the Hollywood machine.

This one was researched deeply with references to the original Carlo Collodi novel, his extended revision, the Russian play, and, of course, several nods to the Disney movie.
